Fantastic news - hopefully this is the beginning of you re-establishing a relationship - int he same way that Witnesses see life-threatening illness as an opportunity so it cna work the other way. Amazing that she has a UBM but still shunned you for being an apostate!

A bit of gossip.
by chrisuk ini just thought i'd share this; my mom has dinner with her jw friend on tuesdays and apparently the jw wasn't in a very good mood today... the reason for this as she told my mom is because she wasn't invited to the agm.
she's been a jw for 25 years, doesn't pioneer, but is very dedicated to the cause.
she also explained to my mom that 2 other sisters one of whom is 80 yrs old and has been a jw all her life wasn't invited either.

jgnat - my wife only goes on field service on Sundays after the meeting at the KH but I would have thought that would be enough but I have suspected for a while that she is treated poorly at the KH for the reasons I outlined above, in particular the fact that is clear that there are not prospects of converting me> I htink that even her old school friend dpoes not treat her that well. So it would not be surprising if she had not been invited given that they seemed to have been more selective about who to invite in the UK. I iwll ask her gently about this again later if the chance presents itself.

Interesting - when I asked my wife whetehr she was going to the AGM she didn't seem to know what I was talking about and then she didn't go to the KH on Sunday. So I wonder if she wasn't invited because she is married to an UBM, has been unsuccessful in getting my son to go, only goes on Sundays and was previously df'd. I hope so because that really helps my cause in getting her to stop going - the more they make her feel unloved the better for me!

Are you the huggy sort?
by Ucantnome ini don't really do hugs and kisses.
my wife went to hug me this morning and i instinctively backed away.
we laughed.

I am a hugger - especially with my wife and young son but even with my 18 year old son. My father was not a hugger and so I grew up a bit hug-repressed but I have gotten over that as I have gotten older. unfortunatley one fo the things we Australians inherited from the Brits was a diffidence about conveying emotion or affection but we are getting better at breaking away from this traditon with every generation. Hugs are good for your soul.

Christians and conspiracy theories?
by Seraphim23 ini often have a pop at certain kinds of atheists but for a change i thought id have a pop at certain kinds of fellow christians.
on the last christen web site i was thrown out of there was much love for the conspiratorial view of the world.
they were mostly x witnesses who were very much still in its mind set.

Man has a tendency to conspiracy theories because the ability of man to see patterns has given man a comparative advanatage so we have evolved with a strong abiliyt to identify patterns - the problem is we overuse it and see patterns where there are none and draw conclusions from too little information and ascribe actors with more power and influence than they actually have.
Also, the simpler someone's worldview, the more they engage in black and white thinking, the more they want to be able to explain everything and the less comfortable they are with uncertainty and ambiguity, the more likely they are to be conspriacy theorists. Hence why Witnesses are classic conspiracy theorists. Indeed the whole Great Babylon (the Catholic Church) being controlled by Satan and corrupting Christianity claims by the WBTS is a huge conspiracy theory which is easily exposed by the other conspiracy theory about Satan being behind scientific thought and the theory of evolution. Conspiracy theories are also great for explaining why everyone else can't see the truth that is evident to you and which prevents you from getting them to accept the truth you present to them. So I can see how other religious groups, including christian ones could be exponenets of conspiracy theories.
I think there is a lot to the adage: 'If you have a choice between and a conspiracy theory and a crew-up theory on how and why something happened, in most cases the screw-up theory will be correct.' In practice humans have so many weaknesses and difficulties in planning in environments of uncertainty that few things involving large numbers of people actually go as planned and the more complex it is, the less it goes to plan.

Ucantnome and Stand for Pure Worship - You guys are nothing but apologists for this evil organization.
Theoretically baptism of children by religions that don't have the controls that the WBTs may be fine as there would be no cost to them if they later changed their mind (though I personally believe that any religious affiliation should not be acquired until adulthood otherwise ti will almost certainly simply be a matter of adopting one's parents' religion and so will not be a choice made after due consideration)- but I have a huge problem with baptism of children as Witnesses becasue of the contrl the organization then exercises over them for the rest of their lives and the damge caused when they subsequently realize, if they do, that it is a crock of shite. As for it being a choice - the child will have been subject the organizaion's heavy duty insidious indoctrination using fear from an early age so wil be making anything but an informed decisions. the reason for this heavy emphasis on child baptism is because the orgnaization is failing to recruit adults in the West to their lame tired old message so they get the children of current memebers and brainwash them uisng fear tactics when they are too young to discern what is wrong with the message. It is a form of child abuse and I look forward to the day that governments recognize it as such.

The New Diary of Winston Smith
by WinstonSmith inwe had to go off grid for a time, time and half a time as we thought we had been outed.
fortunately it was a false alarm, but it was a stressful time.
i asked for my original diary thread to be deleted in case there could be anything on there to identlfy mrs smith and i. i am always very careful when posting, and am sure there was nothing on there, but felt it best to have it removed in order to be as cautious as a dove.

Winston - this is horrible! You poor guy - to have your own mother treat you like this because of vicious indoctrination from an organization intent on its own survival no matter what is appalling. Both you and your mother are victims of these b@sta@rds. I hope one day she also understands TTATT and realizes the error of her ways. It is so sad. Take care

Aust. Election in 1 week - A review of Kevin Rudd, PM
by fulltimestudent ini'm still determined not to vote - just to write something unpleasant about pollies on the ballot paper.
if i lived in victoria, i just may, as an act of sheer bastardry, vote for julian assange (of wikileaks fame), but i don't live in vic, so i cant.. my objection to voting is that the political choice offers two self-perpetuating oligarchies (who are something like the governing body).
they make up a slate of candidates and election advertising consists of attempting to persuade swinging voters to vote for their slate of candidates.. anyway, i noted that k.rudd has made a video in chinese, aimed apparently at mainland china.

barry - you might want to start wearing a collar, cos your red neck is showing! While I can see how stopping illegal immigration from boat people is helpful because illegal immigration disrupts orderly immigration - but the suggestion that it will result in an Australia with Sharia law is frankly ludicrous. Australia has been a multi-cultrunal society for a long time now and supposedly that makes us tolerant of other cutlures and religions. Places like the US which are not islands which are a long way from anywhere, deal with large waves of illegal immigrants on a daily basis and arguably benefit from that in the form of people willing to do menial jobs for not much money who offset an otherwise aging population. Australia benefits from immigrants enormously, even illegal immigrants. But I can see that it is fair that those people seeking to enter the country legally should not be queue-jumped by people who pay dodgy racketeers and put their lives at isk to enter illegally. "The excitement is PALPABLE"
by Separation of Powers ingot caught at the supermarket (in between the martini olives and snack crackers ) with several bottles of hard liquor in my basket along with some red licorice by a sister that has known me for years.
still respects me, not knowing that i am in full fade mode, or at least not recognizably knowing.
anyway, when she sees me, her eyes get all big and she heads in my direction, nearly ramming my liquor laden cart with her vegan oriented basket.. "hey sop, how are you doing?

As for buying yourself presents - before I met my wife I never did this - now I do this for Xmas, my birthday and Father's Day. She gets me something for our anniversary though to make up for the rest of the year.
